Since this is an early meet, I’d like to accommodate as many throwers as possible to get an early mark for the year, while still running an efficient meet. There are usually numerous athletes with no marks, so it is hard to implement a top mark entry restriction. We will use a qualifying round like we did last year. To use a “qualifying competition” for throws to get to numbers of 16 for hammer, disc and jav and 24 for shot. Qualifying Competition: This is a competition separate from and preceding the event competition proper. It is used to determine who is allowed to compete in the competition proper. No marks from the Qualifying Competition in an event are valid in determining the final placing of the competitors in the event. The games committee determines the structure of the groupings in the Qualifying Competition, as well as the number of competitors who qualify to the competition proper. Who qualifies to the competition proper is through a combination of best performance in the Qualifying Competition and achievement of an automatic standard as determined by the games committee. A Qualifying Competition may be contested for any field event. The use of this option precedes the implementation of Flights, no other method. Indoor Rule 5-2.4 and Outdoor Rule 13-2.4 The qualifying competition will consist of 2 throws. After 2 throws the predetermined number of top throwers (8) will be added to complete the 12 (disc, hammer, jav) or 16 (shot) that qualify into the competition and would be moved into a flight. The qualifying athletes will be awarded 2 additional throws in the competition for a total of 4 throws. Only the last throws in the competitive flights would count towards meet placement, but any of the 4 throws would be eligible for regional/national qualification.
