Begun in 2022 and reorganized to specifically include Division I competition in 2025, the meet was created in honor of the legends who originally built the Track & Field program at UWG, Head Coach Ryan Bailey resurrected home meets at the university after a 40-year hiatus and named the event the UWG Legends Track Meet. The history of the UWG Track Complex is unique, as the track was built in the 1970s, hosting the last meet in 1985. It was then renovated in 1995 by the US Olympic committee to allow for the Ukrainian National Team to practice for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
