Track Meet

Official Web Site

"The Taco Bell Track & Field Classic is now in its 19th year, and is once again a National Scholastic Sports Foundation Select Meet. The first meet in 1991 had 13 teams. Since 2000, the meet has averaged over 1,700 athletes from 160 schools and 9 states. The meet is not only large in size, but also in stature. Multiple Olympians and NCAA champions have prepped on the track at the campus of Spring Valley High School. Come join us in warm, sunny South Carolina this April.

Special thanks to DirectAthletics for offering services that make it possible to run a meet of this size. Prior to DirectAthletics it was taking well over 40 man hours to enter the athletes by hand. Now it takes just 15 seconds to download the meet." -Kevin Shaw, Meet Director

NCAA Division I Conference

www.themwc.com

Challenge:

The Mountain West Conference (MWC) approached DirectAthletics looking for a way to automate the management of its Track & Field performances and streamline the entry process for their Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

Since all but 3 MWC schools are located above 3,000 ft., it was essential that the performance list and online entry system be customized to handle the NCAA's specific altitude adjustments.

Solution:

DirectAthletics implemented an online performance list that is used to automatically compile and convert qualifying performances throughout the season. When a MWC team attends a DirectAthletics meet, the performance list is instantly updated when the meet director uploads the Hy-Tek results - saving time for the coaches, SIDs and the conference. Coaches and SIDs can also submit performances via an online form.

For the Indoor and Outdoor Championships, DA implemented an entry/declaration system that is integrated with the MWC performance list. Coaches can only declare existing, verifiable performances - eliminating errors and prohibited entries.

All entry and proof of performance data is imported instantly into Hy-Tek's MEET MANAGER, making the championship entry process quick, easy and fair for all involved.

DA also provides performance list automation and online entry services for MWC Swimming & Diving. Click here to see the MWC performance list in action.

TAAF Texas Amateur Athletic Federation

Amateur Athletic Association

www.taaf.com

Challenge:

The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) promotes amateur athletics throughout the Lone Star State and is the organizer of the Games of Texas - one of the largest state games in the country. All athletes must be registered with TAAF in order to compete. TAAF was looking for a way to collect registrations and payment online to streamline their operation.

Because their registrations were submitted by cities, clubs and individual athletes -- specific features were needed to customize the registration process based on the type of entrant.

Solution: DirectAthletics technology now powers all individual sports registration for TAAF -- including sports such as gymnastics, track & field and swimming. DirectAthletics created a custom application that allows cities, affiliate clubs, parks & recreation departments, and individual athletes to register quickly and easily online.

Each year, www.taafregistration.com processes online payment and registration for over 15,000 athletes, and an additional 11,000 meet entry transactions in track & field and swimming alone.

NMAA New Mexico Activities Association

State High School Association

www.nmact.org

Challenge:

The New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) governs all high school sports in the state. NMAA wanted an online entry solution that would eliminate tedious data entry and clerical errors for their track & field and swimming championships, while maintaining their existing qualifying protocol. In addition, the association wanted a real-time compiled list of qualifiers in both sports for public view.

Solution:

The NMAA now requires state qualifying entries from all New Mexico high schools for track & field and swimming to be submitted online via DirectAthletics. DA created a customized entry process for NMAA which allows certain district qualifying entries to bypass the state entry standards. In addition, a public site was created at the request of NMAA to allow everyone to see the list of state qualifiers and proof of performance data online on a real-time basis.

Challenge:

Hosting a large indoor track meet is a challenge. In addition to the many tasks of meet administration, indoor meet directors are frequently faced with the headache of time constraints and facility capacity issues. The Montgomery Invitational - the largest indoor high school meet in the Washington D.C. area - was looking to streamline its entry process to allow the meet directors to spend more time on other responsibilities.

Solution:

DirectAthletics has provided online entry services for the Montgomery Invitational 5 years running, eliminating countless hours of data entry by the meet staff. Today the event attracts some of the best high school competition in the Mid-Atlantic -- growing from less than 500 entries in 2002 to over 2000 entries and 120 schools in 2006.
